Bioidentical Hormones and Aging: Exploring Their Potential Impact on Health and Well-being

Bioidentical hormones are artificial hormones made from natural substances. They imitate the hormones produced by our bodies.

Bioidentical hormones are used in a medical setting to treat hormonal imbalances.

Depending upon the severity of the issue, these hormones are treated in the form of pellets, pills, gels, creams, injections, and patches. Usually, these hormones are taken by older men and women to treat an age-related decline in hormone production.

Continue reading to learn about the potential impact of Bio-identical Hormones on overall health and well-being.

Impact Of Bioidentical Hormones On Overall Health And Well-Being

Aging is an inevitability. Hormone production slows down in both men and women as we age. Low production of essential hormones can trigger a variety of health issues.

It can weaken bones, reduce the bodys ability to grow muscle, disrupt cognitive functions, and reduce sex drive, amongst other things.

However, thanks to modern medicine, these issues can be alleviated. By using bioidentical hormones, hormone levels in the body are restored to their glory days.

Sourced from natural ingredients like yam and soy, bioidentical hormones are synthetically modified to imitate the molecular structure of the hormones produced by our bodies.

Now, let us discuss the impact of bioidentical hormone treatment on our overall health and well-being.

  • Helps Regulate Mood-

Did you know that hormone instability can lead to mood swings and emotional outbursts? It is true. Hormones like estrogen, testosterone, and thyroid help regulate our mood.

Excessive and insufficient production of these hormones can cause aggression issues, anxiety, and even depression. With bioidentical hormone therapy, hormone levels in our body are restored, which helps regulate mood and emotions.

  • Promotes Production Of Collagen-

Wrinkles, fine lines, and loss of elasticity are normal signs of aging. Like with most bodily functions, the health of our skin is linked to hormone production. In both men and women, estrogen plays a significant role in promoting skin health.

Estrogen promotes the production of collagen in our body. Collagen is a protein that provides structure and support to our skin. As estrogen levels drop, so does the production of collagen. This triggers the loss of elasticity of the skin.

Therefore, BHRT can help everybody reduce the signs of aging by promoting the production of collagen. During BHRT, emphasis is laid on improving estrogen, progesterone, and dehydroepiandrosterone to promote healthy skin.

  • Improves Hair Production-

In women, estrogen and progesterone are necessary for growing hair in its required place. As the levels of estrogen and progesterone drop with age and postmenopause, it triggers the thinning of hair and ultimately baldness.

Bioidentical hormone therapy that focuses on restoring a healthy premenopausal balance between progesterone and estrogen can reduce hair thinning. It does so by reducing the rate of hair loss and promoting the retention of existing hair follicles.

Excessive and insufficient production of testosterone are the biggest reasons for hair loss in men. It is common to observe older men with thinning hair on their heads but with hair growth from their ears and nose.

This happens due to low production of testosterone, which reduces the bodys ability to grow hair in the required spot. Simultaneously, high testosterone production alters body hair composition. A healthy level of testosterone, with the help of BHRT, can slow down hair loss in men.

  • Boosts Bone Health-

Have you ever wondered why older people are at an increased risk of developing osteoporosis? Aside from poor eating habits and genetic disposition, hormonal imbalance is an important reason for this.

Lower production of estrogen and testosterone in women and men, respectively, is linked to osteoporosis.

Estrogen regulates bone health in women. In men, testosterone is converted into estradiol, a synthesized version of estrogen, which regulates bone density. So, the body is unable to regulate bone density as the levels of estrogen and testosterone drop.

This is where BHRT comes into play. BHRT restores hormones in the body. And this positively impacts bone density.

  • Enhanced Libido And Sexual Function-

It is common for men and women to experience loss of sexual desire and function as they age. Low levels of estrogen production lowers women’s libido and can make intercourse painful due to loss of vaginal lubrication.

Simultaneously, low levels of testosterone lower sexual desire in men, reduce sperm production, and lead to erectile dysfunction. With BHRT treatment, both men and women experience rejuvenated libido and increased sexual satisfaction.

  • Improves Muscle Mass and Weight Management-

Loss of muscle mass and strength is a generic sign of aging. So is facing difficulty in losing and gaining weight. BHRT treatment optimizes the metabolic system.

This helps the body acquire the necessary nutrients from the food. Thereby, increasing energy levels and enhancing physical function. Proper acquisition of nutrients from the food also helps the body build and retain muscles.

  • Regulates The Circadian Rhythm-

Growing older affects the quality of our sleep. Older people tend to be light sleepers and wake at least 3 to 4 times every night.

Frequent disruptions during the night and low quality of sleep can lead to sleep disorders and negatively impact your mental health. At the same time, it can be due to stressors like familial issues, financial insecurity, or health issues.

It can also be because of the reduced production of essential hormones. Both estrogen and testosterone play a crucial role in regulating the bodys circadian rhythm via the metabolic system.

With BHRT treatment, restoration in the hormone levels improves the metabolic system, which helps properly regulate the circadian rhythm.

What Age Should You Consider Getting Hormone Therapy?

Although hormonal imbalances are common amongst older men and women, they can affect younger people as well.

Certain autoimmune diseases, genetic disposition, cancer, trauma, and side effects of medication can lead to hormonal imbalance. Therefore, people of all ages can benefit from BHRT (bioidentical hormone replacement therapy).

If you are exhibiting any symptoms related to hormonal imbalance, then you should consult with your doctor about BHRT. It is important to keep in mind that BHRT is a medical treatment.

Conclusion

Age-related hormonal imbalance is extremely common. It can adversely affect the quality of life. This is because hormonal imbalances can reduce sexual pleasure, deteriorate the quality of sleep, and disrupt cognitive abilities.
