How to Relax Your Anxiety

Almost everyone deals with some level of anxiety at some point in their lives. Some people deal with it more than others, and for some it can become chronic. Anxiety can make you feel as if your heart is racing, your head is fuzzy, and your body is numb. It can leave you feeling shaken up, sad, angry and a whole range of emotions that can be difficult to control if you don’t get ahead of them.

Some people immediately head to their doctor to get expert medical advice, while others choose to use pure CBD oil. Being able to make yourself calm is a skill and often, your anxiety can override the ability to calm yourself. The moments of intense stress that pop up can take some time to get over, and while it can take some time and practice, you can empower yourself and there are things that you can do. Take a look at the short list below!

  1. Learn to calm your breathing. Slowing down your breathing and just taking your time to deeply breathe into your stomach is one of the most effective ways to reduce your anxiety. Deep breaths give you a chance to refocus and you can focus on slow, deep breaths to help bring your anxiety down.
  2. Remember the triple 3 rule. When you’re in an anxious funk, it’s hard to center yourself and just focus. With the rule of triple 3, you can do just that. You can look around and name three things you see, listen for three sounds, and move three body parts. Once you do these three things, you can bring yourself back to the present and feel good for it.
  3. Relax. It sounds easy to do that, but you need to do this slowly. Progressive muscle relaxation is a way that you can relax every single piece of your body bit by bit. This way, you can practice keeping your body comfortable and relaxed, which can reduce your anxiety and make you feel good over time.
  4. Speak to someone. The best way to help your anxiety is to talk to someone who gets it. Whether that’s a family member or a friend, a colleague or a stranger who has an ear to listen, you need to speak to someone and share your feelings. If you’re feeling down and worrying, a therapist or doctor can help you. You will likely know a few people in your life who have struggled with anxiety in the past, and it can be helpful to share those anxious feelings so that they can listen and advise you accordingly.
  5. Get up and move. Exercising helps your body to release feel-good chemicals like endorphins. Therefore, it’s in your best interest to get up and move your body – even if it’s just for a walk in nature.
